Divrei Torah
We have a tradition at JFS of starting every Board meeting and staff meeting with a D'var Torah. It's one of the ways we try to be mindful of the J in JFS.

Our Divrei Torah are not what many would consider traditional: Sometimes we refer to the Parsha, or Torah portion, of the week and other times we don't. Many are personal reflections. We wanted to make it easy to deliver a D'var Torah - to encourage people to find their own voices and make their own connections. And our collection of wonderful Divrei Torah shows we have succeeded.

Family Front and Centre - www.familyfrontandcentre.com

Families, no matter their makeup, are vitally important to our children, to helping them grow into healthy and productive adults. They teach children how to behave, to relate to each other and to others. Families serve as a gateway to the wider world and, at the same time, as a safe harbour to protect children from risks that the world presents.

Family Front and Centre is an information toolkit, developed by JFS, featuring five booklets that address critical elements of child development. The bilingual guide, funded by Health Canada, is intended for frontline workers in 900 community-based projects who work with families and children with special mental-health needs. Some are volunteers; most are non-professionals. They identified a need for resources to help them deal with such issues in children as attachment, attention, anxiety, aggression and self-esteem. The toolkit contains helpful strategies and relevant activities to use in working with young children.
